argoed and Trebanos served up a corker of a cup tie with fifty points on the scoreboard by half time. The village club from the Swansea valley threatened an upset taking a 24-27 lead into the half time break only for the home side to reassert themselves during a gruelling second half and sealing the victory with a converted try four minutes from time.
It looked as though it was going to be a long afternoon for the West Wales outfit going 12-0 down in the first six minutes with tries from centre Darren Humphries and wing Ashley Norton, one converted by outside half Ian Smerdon. Lesser sides might have folded but Trebanos are made of sterner stuff. They hit back with tries from scrum half Morgan Evans taking advantage of a ricochet and then a hack on and chase by wing Matthew Edwards who converted both. A long delay followed as try scorer Ashley Norton was stretchered off with a serious looking injury.
Edwards extended the lead to 12-17 with a long range penalty before hooker Geraint Clarke got one back for the home side to edge back in front with a converted try. Another Edwards penalty trumped by a Jordan Howells try looked enough for Bargoed to end the half in front but hooker Chris Forshaw thought differently and crossed for the last move of the first forty with Edwards converting to give Trebanos a 24-27 lead at the break.
The second half saw the Premiership side take control but it took a Ieuan Jones pushover try from a five metre scrum on the hour and a second for hooker Geraint Clarke to finally put the result beyond doubt with Bargoed running out winners at 38-27.
