Ammanford 7 Warriors 33

Bargoed Warriors travelled to Ammanford for another National 2nd XV Conference fixture in difficult conditions. It was good to see Steff Jeremiah back from injury and a couple of youth players again moving up into the senior ranks with half backs Ieuan Morgan and Ben Jones in action.

This young side are developing their skill set and building in confidence week on week under the guidance of Gary Jones and Gareth McCarthy, ably assisted by senior players Toby Richards and Ian Jenkins.

Bargoed came out on top 33-5 in a great advert for 2nd XV rugby. There were tries for Jason James, Luke Ellaway, Lawson Perry, Ian Jenkins and birthday boy Christian Cuss.

There were some good shifts put in again by Glen Lucas and Jay Moon up front, and Callum Jones picked up the Man of the Match.

It was good to see Aaron Hughes back in Bargoed colours, as he will add experience and a great skill set to the squad.

The Jones dynasty were also out in force yesterday, and great to see Ben Jones have the opportunity to play alongside his older brother Callum. His eldest brother Steffan also played for Bargoed before moving on to Regional and latterly Premiership rugby with Cardiff.

They follow their dad Huw who was a front row stalwart at Bargoed for many years and is still involved as the Youth Team Coach. He played along with his older brother and back rower Ian, and younger brothers Hywel a talented centre and very versatile player, and also Stuart, another talented back rower.

Stuart’s boys are in the Mini and Junior Section playing, so what’s the odds on all the Jones boys getting on the field together.

They would have to be coached though by the Don Corleone and head of the family Haydn, who spent many years running the Youth Team in the 80’s, and was a popular member of the committee and still a staunch supporter today.

Talk about keeping it in the family,  what a team that would be!!

The Warriors entertain Risca next week and will be looking to keep their rich vein of form going. Well done lads you’re doing the club proud, two great wins with the 1st XV victorious as well, keep it up.
