Bargoed RFC Welcomes WRU 2nds Conference

Bargoed RFC Chairman Neil Carter has welcomed proposals by the WRU to establish a 12 team second XV conference and described the inclusion of the Club's second string as hugely significant.

"This is a remarkable achievement for us as a club. We said from the outset that getting into the Premiership would not change our philosophy and approach as a Community club. Continuing to nurture and develop talent through the age grades and up to a second XV was something that we always intended doing and being in the Premiership gave us even more of an incentive to maintain that approach. Our success as a club over the past decade has not been confined to the first XV and we are delighted that our seconds have been recognised and included as one of only twelve teams from across South and West Wales to play in the new Conference."

The teams will play in three groups of four based on Geography: East, West and Central and Bargoed will be partnered with Tondu, Rhiwbina and Bridgend Athletic in the Central Group for home and away stages before entering a series of playoffs leading up to the final to determine the Champions.

Carter continued " We've got an experienced management team in place with Darren Broad and Gary Jones leading the off field activities and two former players, Gareth McCarthy and Matthew Hutcheon will be taking on the coaching duties. We will be selecting our Captain shortly."

Llandovery is the only other Premiership side with a second XV in the Conference.
