Bargoed Briefs

On Saturday it was only the Warriors who were in action in a cup and league double header against fellow Mid District outfit Aberdare, who provided stern opposition in difficult conditions. Bargoed came out on top 27-0, in a hard fought game with tries from Aaron Hughes, Dylan Yates, Lewys Lippiett & Lawson Perry and 2 points from the boot of Lawson Perry. Warriors now face Penallta away in the semi finals

This week the 1st XV are back in action with a Principality Premiership outing against SWALEC Cup semi finalists Cross Keys. The Keys have started to find some form after an indifferent start to the season, but Bargoed will travel to Pandy Park with confidence after a positive start to the second half of the season with a series of wins, and a good performance in defeat against Llandovery in the cup.

The Warriors face Dowlais .at home, and the Youth travel to St. Julian's RFC for another league game as they chase a top three finish in the league. All games kick off at 2.30 p.m.

Bargoed had another successful trip to Hawick over the Wales v Scotland weekend with 35 travelling north of the border to renew acquaintances with our old friends. On the field Bargoed fought gallantly to defend the Butters Cup against Hawick Quins, but eventually lost 35-10. The boys put in a great shift considering the fact that they had drunk some of the Hawick pubs dry on the evening before the game. It was a great effort by all, well led by man of the match, the ageless Ian 'Sergio Parisse' Jenkins who had a stormer in the back row. The weekend was once again a great success, with piped bands, rum and milk, Kangaroo Court sessions, shirt and tie swapping, Edgy on the accordion, and Aled Webb doing a great Tom Jones impression. It was good to see a mix of old and new faces on the trip forging friendships with the boys at the Quins, and continuing the tradition into the 52nd year. To the Quins boys, thanks for looking after us, see you next season!

Good to see popular Committee member Jeff Evans up and about and back in action on duty on Saturday after a recent illness. He was back to his usual jovial self, with a smile for all, and an eye for detail as he analyses the performances of any games that he watches. Good to see you back in action Jeffrey!

Bargoed RFC would like to wish ex player and current Nelson RFC Captain, Joel Knott a speedy recovery after he broke his leg playing for Nelson in the top of the table clash against Rhydyfelin on the weekend. Joel was an important member of the successful Bargoed Youth squad, from a few years back, and has great versatility which has seen him play in a no. of positions with great success.

The saying Jack of all trades is true but Knotty is a Master at all of them as well, with a great work ethic and fantastic skill set. Joel has been at Nelson RFC for a couple of seasons now and Captain for the last couple of years. He has made a huge impact for both the Unicorns, and his beloved sevens team Y Barbariad. All the best Knotty boy from all your friends at Bargoed RFC
