Bargoed Briefs

The 1st XV went down to Cross Keys in their first defeat in the Principality Premiership Tier Two. This was a disappointing performance after the squad had showed much better form since Xmas, and is no doubt a setback. However this squad have shown plenty of grit and resilience in their maiden season in the Principality Premiership, by bouncing back after a poor start. This will be a test of character, but this group of players have that in bucket loads, and will certainly look to what Wales have done in recent weeks by galvanising themselves through that disappointment to put things right for the next game.

On Saturday the Warriors were disappointingly without a game, but the Youth managed a win in the league away at St. Julian's HSOB 26-22 in an entertaining game with three excellent tries. Adam Rees, who will surely push for a place in the 1st XV next season scored two tries, and was a constant threat with ball in hand, and hardworking Jay Moon got the other one. Ben Jones added the extras with a fine kicking and defensive display, chipping in with 11 points from the boot.

There is no game on the fixture list for any of the sides for the forthcoming weekend so it will be a busy week of phone calls and e-mails as we look to secure games for the Warriors and the Youth. The 1st XV are not due to play until the 25th March when there is a friendly against Bedwas, before they return to league action. Hopefully there will be some rugby on Saturday for the boys but the club will be open anyway for the finale of the Six Nations with Super Saturday on the horizon.

Good to see ex Bargoed prop Craig Nutt back in the country and over with some of his team mates from Abu Dhabi Saracens to go and see Wales play on Friday night. It was good to see him and the boys in the club on Saturday mixing in with the senior and youth team boys, taking them on in the Boat Race, broom race, and a bit of arm wrestling....just a normal night in the club!! Safe trip home Nutty boy.
