Bargoed Youth faced Risca under the lights in a midweek Dragons League home game which was played at Ystrad Mynach. 

Bargoed started well going through the phases which resulted in Risca conceding a penalty which Rhys Thomas converted to lead 3-0.

They increased the lead on 11 minutes when Lewis Cooper intercepted and showed great pace to score under the posts, Thomas converted to make it 10-0.

Bargoed’s set piece was very effective and causing Risca problems and when they kicked loosely full back Keenan Davies took advantage and ran it back beating a number of players from the half way line to score, Thomas converted.

Bargoed scored again after 28 minutes after good work from Keaton Davies, with second row Tom Collier running a great line to score, Thomas again converted.

Risca battled back valiantly but Bargoed’s defence held firm and when the opportunity arose impressive hooker Jake Rees crashes over for the home side to lead 30-0 at half time.

Bargoed were not resting on their laurels and Lewis Cooper (now playing at scrum half) scored a superb solo try with Thomas converting.

Rhys Thomas and Liam Jones added tries with Thomas concerting both and when Ieuan Dymond scored later the game was over and Bargoed were victorious 55-0.

Risca certainly met a Bargoed side that was on fire on the night, but Risca can hold their heads high with a great effort. They also created opportunities but Bargoed were far more clinical.

It was good to see prop Josh Parry back in action on the field with some second half game time after a long lay off through injury.

The Coaching Staff were happy with the performance of the squad and now look forward to the next phase of league competition.
