Bargoed RFC -Welcome to the Six Nations

Bargoed RFC - Welcome to the Six Nations

The Six Nations is upon us once again, but this year it will be very different. Even though we’ll be supporting from our sofas, and not in the club or the stadium, it’s still a very exciting time.

Bargoed RFC is usually a bundle of energy and excitement with members and supporters converging on the club for beer and banter as all generations of our community come together to support Wales.

Fantasy Teams, who have you selected in yours? Who will score first, who will score last, who will win, whose round is it, get the beers in.....so many questions that will be answered with  passion and excitement and typical welsh rugby banter.

Bargoed RFC will be cheering Scotland on later today as they face England at Twickenham, in support of our old friends from north of the border at Hawick Quins.

Wales entertain Ireland on Sunday with the country firmly behind them, even though the Principality Stadium will not be packed to the rafters as usual.

Bargoed RFC would like to wish Wayne Pivac, Alun Wyn Jones and the whole Welsh Squad all the best for the tournament. We’re all behind you.

Next week Bargoed RFC would be preparing to travel to Scotland to play, and once again meet our old friends at Hawick Quins RFC, in a relationship that started in 1967 and is still going strong.

Unfortunately we won’t be travelling this year but that relationship will continue in the future with friendships developed over many years, games, songs and pints.

Even though we can’t get together some of the Hawick Quins recently joined us in a Zoom Quiz to celebrate the start of the Six Nations.

Bargoed’s Mostyn Davies and Darren Broad were the joint winners but in third and fourth place were Tim and Alistair Pretswell from Hawick Quins.

Recent posts on social media have reminded everyone of Bargoed RFC’s rich history, particularly in touring and hosting clubs from all over the world over many years.

These include Senior, Veterans, Youth, and Mini and Junior club trips either way to France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain, Ireland, USA and Canada, along with the regular bi-annual trip to Scotland.

Trie Sur Baise, Heidelberg, RC Bassetts, South Jersey, Philadelphia  Whitemarsh and Kutztown University are just some of the clubs that we have played when touring or hosting over the years.

Times are tough but there is light at the end of the tunnel, to a time when we can return to rugby, to the club and see our friends and rivals in person.

If anyone does have any reports, photos or other Bargoed RFC rugby memorabilia or information that they can share please do. It’s great to look back, to remind ourselves of the great times and values of our game, so that we can look forward to the future and a return to rugby, beer and banter without Zoom.

Remember that Winter will turn to Spring during the Six Nations as we get closer to a return to community rugby, so enjoy it and get behind the boys

Come on Wales ....... Cymru am byth
