Christmas Message

Bargoed RFC

Bargoed RFC would like to wish all their  players, coaches, support staff, parents, members, supporters and our fantastic Supporters Club members a Merry Xmas. Thanks for all your support in these difficult times, as we look forward to the New Year and a resumption of competitive rugby matches.

It’s been great to see how everyone has adapted over the last nine months, even though we’ve all missed the craic and banter with team mates and the wider rugby family.

Who would have anticipated that we would be the last side to play a competitive game in Wales before lockdown, when we welcomed our Scottish friends, Hawick Quins RFC on Friday 13 March. The Wales v Scotland game was cancelled the following day but that didn’t stop us entertaining our friends from the north over that weekend. Long may that great relationship continue.

It’s been really encouraging to see all age groups training and continuing to work hard, in adapting to the restrictions imposed upon us.

Big thanks to Huw Evans, Rob Vokes and Toby Richards for ensuring that we returned to non contact training in a safe environment, with all their hard work, it is appreciated.

We are now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, with the possibility of some form of competitive rugby planned for March/ April for the 1st XV with Premiership and Championship sides returning if things improve in terms of COVID-19 cases.

This will hopefully kick start rugby across the club as we look forward to seeing the hot bed of talent that is the Mini and Junior and Youth sections returning along with the Warriors.

One of the great things about rugby people is their resilience. Bargoed RFC has been around since 1882 and we plan to be here for our community for many years to come. We’ve all had some challenges over the last few months and and in true Bargoed RFC fashion we will never give in, we will always fight back, as will many other clubs across Wales. We will always overcome adversity. We’ve seen that in spades over the last few months, and are confident that we will continue to do so in the coming months. It’s important that we remain positive but do the right thing in fighting this virus.

We hope that everyone has been good and get a visit from Santa.

Stay safe over the Xmas period and enjoy the festivities.

Merry Xmas all and we’ll see you all in the New Year.
