Bargoed Briefs

Bargoed played in their second Sevens Tournament of the season on Saturday as they travelled to Sardis Road to play in the inaugural Pontypridd Sevens.

They were looking to go one better after their Plate Final win at the BAA Day Sevens at Nelson, and pick up the cup in a tough looking competition.

They started well with victories over the British Army and Aberdare. They then faced the hosts, Pontypridd and missed a few chances, which were costly and went down 14-0.

They then took on a young but skilled Glamorgan Wanderers outfit, and in a poor performance were comprehensively beaten 19-0.

Next up were the tournament favourites invitational side Ponty Butchers and Bargoed we’re keen to make up for their poor performance against the Wanderers. This was their best performance of the day as the  Bulls came out on top with an excellent 35-14 victory. Bargoed then won their fourth game against Porth Panthers to end up in third place.

Ponty Butchers beat Pontypridd in the last game to win the round robin tournament and the title.

Bargoed can be pleased with the performances in all games apart from the Wanderers were they were totally outplayed.

New signing Alex Edmonds looked sharp and youngsters Ieuan Morgan and Wade Langley also showed some good form alongside some of the more experienced 7’s players Steffan and Callum Jones, Luke Smalley and Grant Rogers.
