There were two huge games on the weekend for Bargoed with the 1st XV travelling to Pontypridd in a WRU Premiership tie at Sardis Road.
The Warriors faced Bridgend Athletic in the WRU Division 5 Cup tie in Ystrad Mynach.
The Youth game against Old Penarthians in the East Wales Premiership was unfortunately called off due to the weather.
1st XV Report
Bargoed started well and had an early opportunity to score but they conceded a penalty and the hosts cleared their line.
Ponty were first to score after Bargoed conceded a couple of penalties and Ponty forced their way over for a converted try.
The hosts increased the lead when Bargoed were slow to get in defence and Ponty crashed over for a converted try.
Bargoed struck back after the ball was moved from the scrum and Dylan Williams glided through the defence to score. Josh Prosser converted to make it 14-7.
The hosts were next to score through a break in midfield and got a converted try to lead 21-7.
Bargoed struck back just before half time, when they moved the ball wide and Dylan Williams went over for a second try.
Josh Prosser converted and it was 21-14 at half time, with everything to play for.
Bargoed started the second half dominating territorially and got their reward when Ashley Norton scored a great try in the corner. Josh Prosser converted to make it 21-21.
Bargoed had another opportunity after good work by Rhys Thomas but the dead ball line just beat him on the chip and chase.
The hosts managed to get some territory and when Bargoed conceded a penalty at the line-out Pontypridd converted that into three points and they took the lead 24-21.
Bargoed then conceded another penalty just inside their half and the hosts also kicked that one to increase the lead to 27-21.
Bargoed responded well and had Ponty on the ropes with their high tempo attack stretching the defence on a number of occasions but not getting the points they deserved.
The hosts were awarded another penalty and this enabled them to relieve the pressure, and cruelly for Bargoed they managed to score a try right on the final whistle to prevent Bargoed gaining a deserved losing bonus point.
The players and coaching staff will reflect on a performance that was really positive but the result was hard to take, particularly after a tough block against the top three.
The players and coaches should feel confident that those small margins in defeat can be the catalyst to kick on in the second half of the season.
Next up they look forward to facing Cross Keys at home in the league on 14 February.
Warriors Report
The Warriors entertained Bridgend Athletic in the cup quarter final at Ystrad Mynach.
It was an excellent performance from the Warriors and came away with a 41-15 victory after a great performance.
The Warriors played some great rugby and scored six tries from Josh Michael, Charlie Williams, Adam Jones, Dawson Harris, Joey Hall and Chris Cuss.
Charlie Williams got the extras with the boot.
Bargoed will now face Dunvant Athletic in the semi final on 28 March at a neutral venue.
Next up the Warriors travel to Hafodyrynys on 14 February for a Division 5 league game.
