Bargoed v Glynneath

This was not the way that Bargoed would have wanted to celebrate their promotion to the Premiership. A much-changed starting line-up for the Blues were outscored by 6 tries to 5 and outplayed by  relegation threatened Glynneath and it was the boot of the visitors' outside half Jack O'Reilly which made the biggest difference with 4 conversions and 2 penalties compared to Bargoed's 2 conversions.

Glynneath were fast out of the blocks with a try from hooker Craig Tennant converted by O'Reilly after just 5 minutes before Blues scrum half Matthew Hutcheon got one back following good support work from wing Duane Dyer and full back Lee Pearson playing his last game. It went unconverted and O'Reilly added a penalty to make it 5-10 after 13 minutes.

Referee Sean Brickell sensibly called a water break after 25 minutes to give the players some respite in the humid conditions and Glynneath scored just after the restart with full back Josh Ferriman collecting a chip which sat up perfectly and crossing under the posts giving O'Reilly the easiest of conversions to take the score to 5-17 and that's the way it stayed until half time.

Number eight Ross Coombes closed the gap with a converted try just 5 minutes into the half before prop Nicky Boyce restored the visitors' lead a few minutes later, O'Reilly again converting to make it 12-24.

The Blues threw caution to the wind to get back into the game but were punished by another kick which sat up helpfully for wing Alex Burton to cross under the post for their bonus point try which again was converted by O'Reilly who also slotted a penalty to take the score to 12-34.

Phil Price got one back for Bargoed to make it 17-34 but the Blues couldn't sustain it and James Parry scored Glynneath's fifth try before Alex Burton got his second of the afternoon converted by O'Reilly to silence the home crowd with the scoreboard showing 17-46.

With the game well beyond them Bargoed finally got their power game going with wing Gareth Dare picking up the bonus point try with 5 minutes left which went unconverted and the final score came from a penalty try resulting from a powerful drive at a scrum five which was converted by Marc Gwilt.

The Bargoed supporters were left scratching their heads trying to recall the last time their team shipped more than 40 points as referee Brickell ended the game and Bargoed's season, with the score 29 - 46.
