Bargoed Briefs

The 1st XV welcomed Treorchy RFC to Bargoed Park for another National Championship East tie with the games now coming thick and fast as we approach the end of a long season.

Bargoed scored early with Jason James going close but it was Josh Prosser who picked the ball up and crashed over from close range. Prosser converted and Bargoed led 7-0.

The hosts increased the lead to 14-0 with Matthew Lewis scoring a try after a good build up in attack, and Prosser converted.

Bargoed’s third try came from Jordan Howells who picked a great line and took advantage of a defensive error.

The bonus point try was scored by hooker Morgan Edwards who benefitted from good work by the pack with an effective driving line-out, Prosser again converted.

The young Treorchy side were working hard but the hosts were dominant and as they attacked from their own half, good work from Keegan Bale and Logan Yendle created space for a try by Dylan Williams, with skipper on the night Prosser converted.

Bargoed scored two more tries from Matthew Lewis getting his try double and hard working James Locke also crashing over the white wash.

Bargoed led 45-0 at half time and in terrible conditions the quality of handling from both sides was impressive with only three scrums awarded in the first 40 minutes.

Bargoed made some changes at half time and Treorchy had all the early pressure in the second half. However determined defence from the hosts managed to keep them out.

Bargoed started to get more possession and some territory and the pressure paid off with Morgan Thomas scoring a try and Prosser converting.

Bargoed’s final try was deservedly scored by hard working back rower Jason James, who barrelled his way over to score. Matthew Lewis converted and the hosts ended up 59-0 winners.

Credit to Treorchy who never threw the towel in and worked hard to the end. They showed signs of promise with their young squad who will
Learn from this.

It was great to see Logan Yendle start and Taylor Meades come off the bench, both making their senior debuts and still currently playing youth rugby.

Ex Bargoed captain Leigh Meades was there watching his eldest son as a proud father, along with Youth Team Coach Stephen Rose aka Spud, who has worked hard with the other coaches to develop these boys skills.
Both players did their families and the club proud.

Youth team Hooker Joey Hall was also a travelling reserve on the night and he’s another player with a big future. Well done boys

This Saturday the 1st XV face Bedwas with a 2.30 pm
