Bargoed Briefs

Bargoed Briefs

The 1st Xv travelled to local rivals Cross Keys on the weekend and came out on top with a bonus point win to keep the pressure on at the top of the National Championship League table.

Bargoed scored nine tries in an impressive attacking performance with Cross Keys, struggling to contain Bargoed’s potent attack.

There were tries for Dylan Williams, with a hat trick, James Leadbeater (2), Ollie Andrews, Dai Evans, Wade Langley, Kyle Bailey. Josh Prosser kicked three conversions and Matthew Lewis four.

Interestingly seven of Bargoed’s tries were scored by the backs but the two hookers Langley and Bailey also got in on the act with a couple of short range efforts.

Bargoed remain in third place in the National Championship with a couple of games in hand on second placed Neath.

This Saturday sees Pontypool visit Bargoed Park with the Bulls looking to crack Pooler’s unbeaten record. In recent years the games between these two sides have been absolute humdingers with very little between them. It will no doubt be a competitive affair and that’s only the supporters!

It should be another great occasion, so get up to the Park and support the boys.

The Warriors were back in action on Saturday at home to Cardiff Met in the National Conference. It was great to see three of the youth squad stepping up to make their senior debut, in what was a cracking advert for 2nd team rugby. Well done to Youth boys Josh Michaels, Dan Harris and Man of the Match, Morgan Small, who all played superbly.

It was a tight game with the Met as dangerous in attack as usual. Bargoed had their chances but it was the Met who came out on top putting the game out of the Warriors reach with a late penalty to make it 29-19.

Bargoed scored three tries with  Josh Michaels, Ian Jenkins and the impressive Charlie Davies getting the tries and sharpshooter Ben Jones adding two conversions.

Next Saturday The Warriors entertain Aberdare in the Ivor Williams Cup semi final at Bargoed Park.

The Youth are also in action on Saturday away against Ebbw Vale in a Dragons League game.

It’s another big day for all three teams with the business end of the season arriving.
