Bargoed Briefs
The 1st XV travelled to Neath in a WRU Premiership tie with the home side sitting in second place and the visitors in fourth.
Bargoed started well in good conditions and an early break by Dylan Williams put Ashley Norton away but he was pulled down close to the line and Neath cleared their lines.
Bargoed continued their positive start with a period of pressure that saw Neath concede a penalty and Bargoed opted for a scrum, and Tom Rice managed to crash over for a try converted by Josh Prosser.
The hosts responded well with some good ball carries and after a period of pressure and with Bargoed now conceding penalties they managed to get a converted try to level things up on 14 minutes.
Bargoed conceded another penalty and Neath used their power game to good effect to score a second try which was converted and the home side led 14-7.
Bargoed had some territorial advantage but failed to get the gain line and another penalty saw Neath keep possession and a couple of missed tackles from Bargoed enabled them to get over the gain line and in behind the Bulls with a third try which was converted to lead 21-7 with 28 minutes gone.
Bargoed worked hard against a resolute Neath defence and looked like they would score after a Josh Congrieve break but failed to capitalise.
The Bulls were dominating territory and possession in the last ten minutes before half time and they were awarded a penalty try when Neath illegally pulled down a driving maul and it was Neath 21 Bargoed 14 at half time.
Bargoed struggled to get out of the blocks early in the second half and conceded another try with Neath increasing the lead to 26-14.
The Bulls struck back almost immediately after good work by Ashley Norton created the space for Josh Congrieve to score on the other wing, and Prosser converted to close the gap to 26-31 with 50 minutes gone.
Bargoed again went close when impressive wing Ashley Norton got bundled into touch close to the corner flag.
Neath got another penalty to ease the pressure and they attacked and poor defence saw them breach the blue line and scored a converted try in the corner to lead 39-21.
Neath got the final score with a converted try to close the game out 46-21 with a bonus point victory.
Warriors
The Warriors faced the challenge of St Peter’s at home and also came unstuck with a disappointing performance that saw them go down to the Cardiff based outfit. Bargoed struggled in the first half but there were some positive moments in the second half but it wasn’t enough.
Bargoed went down 29-14 with Leon James scoring a couple of tries and Charlie Williams adding the extras.
This week the 1st XV entertain Cross Keys at home and the Warriors travel to play Rumney in Cardiff in league fixtures.
