Bargoed Briefs

The 1st XV had a disappointing result up at Colwyn Bay on Saturday as they went down 56-3 to a very efficient and organised RGC outfit in a Principality Premiership tie. The Coaches will be looking for the side to bounce back quickly as they face Cross Keys RFC in another Principality Premiership clash at Bargoed Park on Friday 4th October kick off 7.15 p.m. Get up there and support the boys!!

The Warriors are at home against neighbours Abertysswg RFC on Saturday morning with an early 10.30 a.m. kick off before the Wales v Australia game. The Youth are looking for a game and are in the pool.

The Warriors had a good win against National Division 3C East outfit, New Panteg RFC, coming away with a convincing 45-14 victory. The Warriors were made to work hard for their win though against a stubborn and dogged home side, with the Warriors only pulling away late on. The try scorers were Gareth Dare (2), Craig Owen, Kayne Greenslade, Josh Davies, Luke Ellaway and Gavin McDonell. There were also conversions for Craig Wilson (2) , Josh Moscardini (2) & Nathan Jones (1)

It was good to see talented youngster Luke Ellaway back in action after being out injured for nine weeks. A special mention for someone the other end of the age scale with veteran Captain Ian Jenkins putting in a great shift at open side before seamlessly slotting in at outside half. Jenks is playing out of his skin at the moment, and the 38 year old veteran is in his 20th season of playing for Bargoed RFC. On top of that he also finds time to coach with the thriving Bargoed RFC Mini and Junior Section, as well as travelling the globe on various rugby tours and stag do's!

The Youth Team also had a good win at home on Saturday against Newport based St. Julian's HSOB RFC. The young Bulls played some great stuff in the 20-12 victory which sees them move into 2nd place in the league. Tries from Liam Morris, Dan Mayo and Robert Carey, along with a Ben Jones conversion and Adam Jones penalty saw them home. They can be proud of their efforts, as they had to dig in late on as they picked up a yellow card for hard working prop Owen Bennett. There were some stand out performances from Luke Cusack and Jack Chamberlain, but this was a real team effort, well done lads.

It was good to see a couple of local boys doing well in the Blues v Scarlets derby on Friday at Cardiff Arms Park. Tom James and Jonathan Evans both had fine games in a titanic battle in front of a bumper crowd, well done lads.

The Wales v Australia game will be on the big screen at the club on Saturday, so get there early to get your seats.
