Bargoed Briefs

The 1st XV travelled west with their first ever visit to Trebanos in a National Championship game.

The home side had the better start with Bargoed making a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes. Trebanos scored the opening try to lead 5-0.

Bargoed responded well and got a try from a driving line-out, Lewys Lippiett crashing over, with Josh Prosser converting.

Bargoed increased their lead when second row Owain Cooper cantered over after 27 minutes after good approach work.

Bargoed now appeared to be in the driving seat and wing Adam Jones scored just before half time for Bargoed to lead 19-5 at the break.

The second half saw Bargoed looking to play with more cohesion but again it was the hosts that had the better of the game early in the second half.

Bargoed eventually broke the deadlock after a charge down and Matthew Lewis crossed for a try.

The hosts never gave in and battled to the end but Bargoed managed to score two more tries late on from Tom Rice and Duane Dyer with Prosser adding the extras for a 38-5 bonus point win.

The Youth travelled down to Machen in another Dragons League match and despite being the better team for much of the game, they again failed to close the game out and lost narrowly 24-19.

There were three tries from Bargoed with Corey Ireland, Aaryn Palmer and Joey Hall crossing and Charlie Williams adding the extras with the boot.

The 1st XV now have four games in two weeks and they face Bedwas at home on Tuesday in the first of these. Kick off is 7.15 pm at Bargoed Park.
