Bargoed Briefs

Both the 1st XV and Youth games were called off on the weekend due to the weather, so the spotlight fell on the Warriors who travelled to Cardiff to play National East Black Conference leaders St Peter’s Boulders.

In an entertaining game the home side came out on top 51-29.

The Warriors played some great rugby and scored five tries from hard working Aaron Elliot, Zak Marchetti Rees, Luke Cusack and two tries from Iwan Jones. Matthew Lewis and Jordan Howells converted one each.

Bargoed worked hard to score but unfortunately made a number of errors deep in their own half and the league leaders capitalised.

The performance was really good in attack, where Bargoed crafted some great tries, but a couple of defensive errors and some poor decision making resulted in a couple of soft tries being conceded. However on the whole, Coaches Lee Pearson and Phil Osborne will be pleased with the effort from all the squad.

This was a high quality game involving two sides with an ambition to play expansively. The score certainly didn’t reflect the difference between the two sides, in a hard fought encounter.

This week sees the 1st XV entertain Llangennech RFC at Bargoed Park in the re-arranged WRU Championship Cup Quarter Final.

The Warriors welcome Cardiff Met RFC to the park in a National Conference fixture.

The Youth travel to play Pontypool Utd in a Dragons league fixture.

Good luck to all the senior and mini and junior sides this weekend.
