Bargoed Briefs

Bargoed RFC have lost a great servant in the Little Big Man, Alan Jones who sadly passed away recently. Alan had been a member of the Bargoed RFC Committee for many years.

Alan worked hard in various roles as an extremely valued volunteer. He was small in stature but he was a huge character, and a great organiser.

There were a couple of examples of this, one was his position as the leisure wear co-ordinator for the club for a number of years.

Alan was instrumental in Bargoed RFC securing a deal to supply the club with Pringle jumpers due to our long standing relationship with Hawick Quins in Scotland.

He was also the organiser of the annual golf trips down west. These events were a great success and these continued for many years.

However,  he did so much more helping out with numerous jobs and tasks on match days and at the club.

Alan’s family were all great supporters of Bargoed RFC and his legacy lives on with his son Paul being the current Chair of the Bargoed RFC Supporters Club.

There is a plan to hold an Annual Golf Memorial Day to remember Alan and carry on the tradition that he would have loved in a Bargoed RFC golf day.

Bargoed RFC were also saddened to hear of the passing of Phil Nichol who was a stalwart of our friends at Hawick Harlequins.

Phil was a great friend of Bargoed RFC and a key figure in the relationship between the two clubs.

There was a huge turnout for his funeral recently with representatives from Bargoed RFC travelling north to attend Phil’s funeral.

He was an extremely popular man and well known in Scotland as a real rugby man.

We have also been informed of the death of another Hawick Quins character, Les Jarvis. He played against Bargoed many times over the years and was a regular in the Quins side in the 90’s as a tough as teak prop.

Both had many friends at Bargoed RFC and they will both be sadly missed. 🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Bargoed Briefs

1st XV Report

Bargoed entertained Llanelli Wanderers in another WRU Community Premiership tie.

Bargoed had early pressure but it was the visitors who opened the scoring after six minutes to lead 3-0

Good work from Logan Yendle and Dylan Williams looked like Bargoed would score but the hosts failed to take the opportunity.

This became a theme as a couple of further opportunities were missed with errors and inaccuracy.

The visitors were losing the  territorial battle but kicked another penalty to lead 6-0
on the scoreboard after seventeen minutes.

The Wanderers conceded a penalty and a yellow card was issued.

Bargoed got into the visitors 22 but another error saw the Wanderers counterattack and score a try at the other end, and lead 13-0.

Good work by Toby Thomas and Josh Prosser saw Prosser cross for a try which he converted and Bargoed closed the gap to 13-7 with twenty five minutes gone.

Bargoed had a period of sustained pressure but failed to put points on the board.

Indeed it was the visitors who scored next with a relieving kick and chase resulting in a converted try to lead 20-7 with thirty five minutes gone.

The hosts were back on the attack and when they were awarded a penalty they kicked to the corner with Lewis Robey deservedly scoring a try which Josh Prosser converted.

Bargoed continued to apply  pressure and eventually it was Codi Purnell who crashed over from close range for a try converted by Prosser and Bargoed took the lead on the stroke of half time 21-20.

It was the Wanderers who opened the scoring in the second half with a converted try after 43 minutes where Bargoed’s defence were caught napping, and the visitors regained the lead 27- 21.

Bargoed struck back after fifty three minutes after a patient build up with Rhys Thomas getting a try and Prosser converting to make it 28-27 to the Bulls.

Bargoed made some changes and they started to apply more pressure on the visitors through their attacking game.

This paid dividends as the Wanderers were penalised in the contact area and a yellow card was given. Bargoed took full advantage with Morgan Edwards touching down for a try to increase the lead to 33-27 after sixty seven minutes.

The Wanderers hit back immediately and poor defence from Bargoed resulted in a converted try and the lead changing hands again as the visitors led 34-33 with ten minutes to go.

Bargoed were immediately on the attack again and another penalty was awarded and Josh Prosser kicked it for Bargoed to lead 36-34.

Bargoed failed to deal with a high ball and this resulted in the visitors going close but Bargoed were penalised and a yellow card awarded.

The Wanderers remained on the attack in Bargoed’s 22 eventually finding space out wide with Bargoed down to 14 men and they took full advantage to score a converted try and lead 41-36 with seven minutes left.

Bargoed were under pressure in the last few minutes and this resulted in another penalty being issued. The visitors kicked for goal and got three points to deny Bargoed a losing bonus point as The Wanderers closed the game out 44-36 in a disappointing and inconsistent performance from Bargoed.

Warriors Report

The Warriors travelled to play Trinant in a Division 5 East fixture and came away with a convincing 87-17 victory scoring twelve tries through Josh Michaels, Chris Cuss, Luke Ellaway, Brad Crossman, James Chard x 2, Jason James x 2 and Harvey Jones with a hat trick.

They now sit in second place behind Blackwood Stars in the league with 40 points from an unbeaten eight games, and with two games in hand and a point behind the Stars.

Youth Match Report

The Youth were back in league action this week away against Caerphilly, and came away with a 33-29 victory in a tight encounter.

There were tries scored by Max Hill, James Lawrence, Shae Jones and two from Tobie Cribb.

The extras were added through the boots of Morgan Marrozelli and Cody Jones.

Forward of the Match was Shae Jones and Back of the Match was Morgan Marrozelli

Well done boys

Bargoed Briefs

The 1st XV travelled to play Neath at the Gnoll in a WRU Premiership clash and the Youth were home against South Gower in the WRU Youth Cup Quarter Final.

The Warriors game was sadly cancelled due to Forgeside not being able to field a side.

1st XV Match Report

Bargoed started well and had an opportunity created with Dylan Williams and Ashley Norton out wide, but the home side managed to defend it.

Neath started to get the edge territorially using their powerful maul to pressure Bargoed and penalties were conceded.

Neath were patient in attack and after 20 minutes they opened their account with a converted try after a multi phase attack.

Neath attacked from half way with a chip and chase being regathered and they scored their second try to lead 12-0.

Bargoed responded well and a break from Keegan Bale looked like it would result in a try for Logan Yendle but Neath scrambled well to deny the Bulls.

Bargoed kept the pressure on and Neath conceded a penalty, but a missed line-out let them off the hook.

The Bulls kept coming though and increased the pace of the game with some quick tap penalties. This paid dividends as the Neath defence struggled to keep their line intact.

Bargoed attacked from a scrum and recycled quickly and hard working back rower Rhys Stephens crashed over. Josh Prosser converted and it was 12-7 at half time.

Bargoed gained an early penalty after good work in the contact area by Ashley Norton. They forced another penalty and Morgan Edwards scored a try from close range converted by Josh Prosser.

Bargoed were now starting to get real momentum with good work by Prosser and Dylan Williams in the air, getting Bargoed into the Neath 22.

Bargoed failed to capitalise on the territory and pressure that they were applying. However they rectified this and scored a third try with Morgan Edwards getting his second touchdown after 62 minutes. Prosser converted and Bargoed led 21-12.

Neath tightened the game up again using their effective maul and they created an opportunity but Bargoed scrambled well and diffused the danger.

Matthew Lewis relieved the pressure with an incredible 50-22 from inside his own 22 to lift the side.

Bargoed made some changes and the bench made an impact as they again upped the tempo.

Bargoed were now well on top and pushing for a bonus point. There were two clear opportunities created but the Bulls disappointedly failed to capitalise.

They also conceded a penalty late on that gave Neath a losing bonus point as they kicked the points to make the final score 21-15

This was a great team performance but the back row in particular got through a load of work in the tight and loose.

The Coaching Team will be pleased with the performance and the result, but will be disappointed that Bargoed didn’t convert chances into points that would have turned the screw and given them a bonus point.

Youth Match Report

Bargoed faced South Gower in the WRU Cup Quarter Final
and came out on top
22-15 in a titanic battle between two quality sides.

There were tries for Rhys Wood, Morgan Marrozelli and Jayden Moon with Cody Jones kicking the extras with a penalty and two conversions.

The Young Bulls came out firing on all cylinders and took a 17-5 lead in at half time before South Gower struck back and closed the gap.

Bargoed managed to deny them and finished with a Quarter Final victory as they move into the Semi-Finals and a step closer to the stadium.

Rhys Wood was voted Back of the Match and Tyler Rees was Forward of the Match

Well done to the whole squad and the coaches who have worked so hard. Keep it going, all at the club are right behind you.

Bargoed Briefs

It was a winning weekend for Bargoed RFC with the 1st XV, the Warriors and the Youth notching up three wins.

1st XV
Bargoed entertained Cross Keys in a WRU Premiership tie after three good performances in recent weeks but just falling short on the scoreboard.

Cross Keys started well and had Bargoed under pressure early on, opening their account with a try after nine minutes.

Bargoed struck back with a well worked try from the pack with Morgan Edwards getting the touchdown converted by Josh Prosser to lead 7-5 after thirteen minutes.

Cross Keys were dominating territory and possession and testing Bargoed’s defence, which was excellent. However the breakthrough came for the visitors after 29 minutes with a converted try to lead 12-7.

Bargoed responded well and applied pressure at the other end of the field but were unable to get the try they were looking for, with the ball held up in goal and then an error in attack when everyone thought that Bargoed would get over the line.

The visitors led 12-7 at half time in this physical encounter.

The second half saw Cross Keys take the initiative and have a period of pressure, but Bargoed again defended well and held firm.

Bargoed were looking to counter attack and good work by Dylan Williams and Rhys Thomas put Charlie Williams away.

He was tackled high and Bargoed kicked to the corner but failed to take advantage.

Keys managed to relief the pressure and great work off the ball by Lewis Johnson resulted in Morgan Edwards getting his second try to make it all square after forty eight minutes.

Bargoed were working hard in a tough battle and were trying to stretch the visitors but an error saw Keys get the loose ball and score from 45 metres out with a converted try.

They led 19-12 with twenty minutes to go.

Bargoed were now starting to get on top with the bench really making an impact and their attack more potent as the game went on.

They levelled the score with a clever kick from Matthew Lewis enabling Dylan Williams to gather and score. Lewis converted and as we went into the last twelve minutes it was anyone’s game.

Cross Keys tried to break the Bargoed defensive line but the energy and intent from Bargoed in defence was superb.

The hosts moved the ball trying to stretch the Keys defence and when they were penalised Josh Prosser stepped up to kick the penalty and take the lead.

Bargoed were back on the attack with the impressive Logan Yendle looking like he may score before being hauled down.

Josh Prosser managed the game well to close it out, pinning Keys deep in their half.

Bargoed ended up winning 21-19 knowing that Keys are a tough side to break down, and getting that important victory at home.

Bargoed’s defence and discipline was outstanding throughout and key factors in getting the result.

The coaching staff will be pleased with the hard fought victory but with plenty of work on’s.

They will also be pleased with the impact of the bench and it was great to see last season’s youth captain Cody Rees doing well along with the other young bucks who added loads of energy and worked hard to get the win.

Bargoed now lie in fifth place in the Premiership with Neath away the next fixture on 28 February at the Gnoll.

Warriors

The Warriors played Hafodyrynys at Trinant in difficult conditions in a Division 5 East fixture.

Bargoed came out on top winning convincingly 80-5 against a side who never threw the towel in.

There were three tries for Jason James, a brace of tries for Dylan Rogers, and Chris Cuss and further tries for James Chard, Morgan Small, Ben Palmer, Harvey Jones, Rhys Davies and skipper Ben Jones on his return after injury.

The extras with the boot were added by Dylan Rogers and Ben Jones.

Big thanks to the Hafod for all their hard work in getting the game on and Trinant RFC for hosting.

Bargoed now sit top of the table in Division 5 East and are unbeaten in the league.

They entertain Forgeside in their next fixture in another league game on 28 February.

It was also great to see the Youth victorious against Merthyr with a well deserved 24-17 victory at home in the East Wales Championship.

This was another great advert for Youth rugby with two well coached teams on show in a high quality game. Well done both sides.

Big thanks to the Referee as well.

This week we entertain our friends from the Scottish Borders as we play our annual fixture against Hawick Quins for the Butters Cup.

The game will be played at Bargoed Park kicking off at 4.30 with the Warriors taking up the challenge against the Quins, and hoping to reclaim the cup after the Quins victory last season.

We then have a 60th anniversary dinner taking place to celebrate this incredible milestone.

We also look forward to Saturday and the Wales v Scotland game in the Six Nations with bragging rights at stake for the weekend.

It’s going to be a great weekend!!

Bargoed Briefs

There were two huge games on the weekend for Bargoed with the 1st XV travelling to Pontypridd in a WRU Premiership tie at Sardis Road.

The Warriors faced Bridgend Athletic in the WRU Division 5 Cup tie in Ystrad Mynach.

The Youth game against Old Penarthians in the East Wales Premiership was unfortunately called off due to the weather.

1st XV Report

Bargoed started well and had an early opportunity to score but they conceded a penalty and the hosts cleared their line.

Ponty were first to score after Bargoed conceded a couple of penalties and Ponty forced their way over for a converted try.

The hosts increased the lead when Bargoed were slow to get in defence and Ponty crashed over for a converted try.

Bargoed struck back after the ball was moved from the scrum and Dylan Williams glided through the defence to score. Josh Prosser converted to make it 14-7.

The hosts were next to score through a break in midfield and got a converted try to lead 21-7.

Bargoed struck back just before half time, when they moved the ball wide and Dylan Williams went over for a second try.

Josh Prosser converted and it was 21-14 at half time, with everything to play for.

Bargoed started the second half dominating territorially and got their reward when Ashley Norton scored a great try in the corner. Josh Prosser converted to make it 21-21.

Bargoed had another opportunity after good work by Rhys Thomas but the dead ball line just beat him on the chip and chase.

The hosts managed to get some territory and when Bargoed conceded a penalty at the line-out Pontypridd converted that into three points and they took the lead 24-21.

Bargoed then conceded another penalty just inside their half and the hosts also kicked that one to increase the lead to 27-21.

Bargoed responded well and had Ponty on the ropes with their high tempo attack stretching the defence on a number of occasions but not getting the points they deserved.

The hosts were awarded another penalty and this enabled them to relieve the pressure, and cruelly for Bargoed they managed to score a try right on the final whistle to prevent Bargoed gaining a deserved losing bonus point.

The players and coaching staff will reflect on a performance that was really positive but the result was hard to take, particularly after a tough block against the top three.

The players and coaches should feel confident that those small margins in defeat can be the catalyst to kick on in the second half of the season.

Next up they look forward to facing Cross Keys at home in the league on 14 February.

Warriors Report

The Warriors entertained Bridgend Athletic in the cup quarter final at Ystrad Mynach.

It was an excellent performance from the Warriors and came away with a 41-15 victory after a great performance.

The Warriors played some great rugby and scored six tries from Josh Michael, Charlie Williams, Adam Jones, Dawson Harris, Joey Hall and Chris Cuss.

Charlie Williams got the extras with the boot.

Bargoed will now face Dunvant Athletic in the semi final on 28 March at a neutral venue.

Next up the Warriors travel to Hafodyrynys on 14 February for a Division 5 league game.

Bargoed Briefs

There were no games for the Youth and Warriors on Saturday with the Warriors Division 5 cup quarter final being postponed after a pitch inspection due to a waterlogged pitch.

The 1st XV were in action though in the WRU Community Premiership Cup semi final at Pontypridd against Merthyr.

Bargoed started well and dominated territory and possession early on and went close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

Josh Prosser kicked a penalty after 17 minutes to break the deadlock and put Bargoed ahead 3-0

Bargoed continued to pressurise but when they conceded a couple of penalties it allowed Merthyr to get into the Bargoed 22 for the first time.

Bargoed’s defence was up to the task and when Merthyr conceded a penalty Bargoed relieved the pressure.

Merthyr were now starting to get into the game and looked as though they would score but a handling error prevented them opening their account.

Bargoed were working hard and winning the aerial battle with their kick chase.

However, Merthyr continued to apply pressure through their power game and eventually managed to score a converted try on the stroke of half time to make it 7-3

Bargoed made a positive start to the second half with good work by Dylan Williams and Dai Evans exposing Merthyr out wide and getting them close to the line.

Merthyr conceded a penalty and Josh Prosser dropped a pin point kick over the top for Will Keep to score. Prosser added the extras and Bargoed led 10-7.

Bargoed conceded a penalty and Merthyr kicked to the corner. The line out was contested but Corey Tucker was harshly penalised and was yellow carded.

Merthyr kicked again to the corner and drove the line-out and scored their second try and kicked the conversion to lead 14-10.

Bargoed made some changes and were again on the attack with Will Keep going close. However the Ironmen conceded a penalty and Joe Scrivens stepped up and kicked it to reduce the lead to 14-13.

Bargoed defended well and then managed to break into the Merthyr half after putting great pressure on their line out.

Merthyr conceded a penalty and Joe Scrivens converted it to push Bargoed into the lead 16-14 after 69 minutes.

Merthyr struck back after another penalty was conceded and they went to the corner. Bargoed defended bravely but eventually Merthyr scored to take the lead 19-16 with six minutes on the clock.

Bargoed responded superbly and went through multiple phases stressing the Merthyr defence who conceded a penalty.

Bargoed knew that they needed a try as they were behind on try count in the event of a draw.

Bargoed drove the lineout and Merthyr again conceded a penalty. Bargoed took a tap penalty and came agonisingly close to scoring but failed to get over the line, with Merthyr holding out and winning the game.

This was a great advert for the Community Premiership Cup with two excellent sides giving everything.

Bargoed RFC will be disappointed as it was a game we could have won, but there are many positives to come out of this.

Next week the 1st XV are back at Pontypridd in a league fixture and the Warriors are due to entertain Bridgend Athletic in a Division 5 quarterfinal cup match.

Bargoed Briefs

Bargoed entertained Narberth  on Saturday at the Caerphilly Centre of Excellence in a WRU Premiership encounter.

Narberth had beaten Bargoed in the opening game of the season at home, so the Bulls were keen to even things up.

However it was Narberth who were on top in the first half with two converted tries as the home side struggled with the conditions playing into a low sun.

Bargoed made a number of changes at the break and early pressure saw Daf Rees score from close range, with Will Ford converting.

Narberth had a period of pressure but Bargoed repelled their attack and defended well.

Bargoed looked much more composed than in the first half and another well constructed attack saw Rhys Stephens get the second try.

Bargoed increased the lead with further tries from Cody Purnell, Josh Prosser and Joe Scrivens. Will Ford who is a great prospect, and is looking really assured, added the extras with the boot.

Narberth battled until the end scoring a couple of tries but it was too little too late as Bargoed came out on top with a final score of 33-29.

The Coaching Staff will be pleased with the second half performance after struggling early on, but credit to the visitors who are a tough side to break down. There are no easy games in the WRU Premiership as we all know.

The victory sees the Bulls move into fifth place, and they will be pushing to get into the top four. However they know that there are more tough games to come against Llangennech (away) and Beddau (home) in the league over the next couple of weeks, so they will need to be at their best.

The Warriors will be hoping to play on the weekend after a frustrating couple of weeks with the weather and opposition unavailability resulting in games being called off pre Xmas.

The Warriors have a 1.00 pm kick off at home on Saturday (weather permitting).

Bargoed RFC Supporters Club

It was great to see an impressive turnout at the Supporters Club Christmas Lunch to honour three Bargoed RFC legends on Saturday before the game against Brecon RFC.

The three gentlemen in question are Noel Phillips, Haydn Jones and Bernard ‘Spud’ Murphy.

It was great to see family and friends present alongside our loyal supporters.

Noel is 90 years old and was a nuggety hooker in his day playing for Bargoed for many years.

He was followed by his son Gareth who was also a fine player in the 80’s and 90’s.

Noel continued his support for Bargoed RFC and was Treasurer of the Supporters Club for many seasons.

Haydn is also 90 years old and the father of the Jones dynasty with his four sons Ian, Huw, Hywel and Stuart all playing for the club.

Haydn was a stalwart of the youth side in the 80’s as Team Manager, Coach and Mentor of many great players who have come through the Bargoed RFC pathway.

They were then followed by five grandsons who all currently play or played for Bargoed RFC.

Steffan retired two years ago, and Calum retired earlier this season and now coaches the Warriors.

His younger brother Ben is Captain of the Warriors. Following them are Stuart’s two boys Tomos and Harri who are currently with the under 16’s.

The Jones Boys what a conveyor belt of talent as the Jones Dynasty continues….

Bernard Murphy known by all as Spud started his career with Bargoed as an 18 year old and he went on to become Club Captain, Vice President, and Life Member. He was also a Patron of the club for ten years.

He is a legend who was known as a tough as teak forward who played with some of the Bargoed RFC greats like Dick Hurd and Emlyn Forward, who both had Welsh trials from Bargoed RFC.

He was Club Captain for three consecutive seasons and was a member of the Bargoed team that won the Mid District Cup.

Spud also played alongside two players who had international honours at Bargoed RFC in Welsh Captain Brian Price who represented Wales with 32 caps and 4 caps for the British Lions and John Mantle who was a dual code international representing Wales in league and union and also representing Great Britain in league.

Both Bernard and Noel were tour members when the club travelled to Canada on tour in 2006 and more than held their own with the youngsters on the social side of things.

In total these three fantastic servants of Bargoed RFC have given a total of 270 + years of service to the club.

Best wishes to all three from everyone at Bargoed RFC.

Bargoed Briefs

The 1st XV were the only side in action on Saturday and they entertained Brecon RFC at Bargoed Park.

Both sides were looking to play expansively but Bargoed had the edge early on but could not break down the visitors defence.

Brecon received a red card for a high tackle and went down to 14 men after 15 minutes. Bargoed remained patient and opened the scoring with Will Keep crossing for a try after 20 minutes.

Bargoed scored again a few minutes later with a cross field    kick from Joe Scrivens being fielded superbly by Dylan Williams and with Logan Yendle and Josh Prosser also involved, Will Keep bagged his second try as Bargoed took the lead 12-0.

Bargoed increased their lead to 17-0 after 31 minutes with Will Keep crossing for his hat trick after Logan Yendle did some great work to set him up.

Bargoed got the bonus point try with 38 minutes gone, this time with Will Keep as the provider and Logan Yendle the try scorer. Bargoed led 22-0 at half time.

Bargoed scored early in the second half to increase the lead to 27-0 with Adam Jones scoring in the corner which was greeted with the sheep chant by the Warriors who were watching the game.

Brecon opened their account with a converted try after 47 minutes to close the gap to 27-7.

Brecon looked like they would score again but great defensive work from Dylan Williams prevented them scoring.

The visitors were now having their best period in the game but Bargoed worked hard in defence to keep them out.

Bargoed increased their lead after lead with Will Keep getting his fourth try after an attack that started in the Bargoed half. Joe Scrivens converted to make it 34-7 with 12 minutes to go.

Bargoed scored again after another good build up in attack with replacement Will Ford scoring after some great footwork and vision. Joe Scrivens converted and Bargoed led 41-7.

The hosts scored again after good work by Will Gregory put Toby Thomas in for a try, which Joe Scrivens converted.

Bargoed’s final try after some direct carries before Jonny Wright crashed over with Scrivens again converting to make the final score Bargoed 55 Brecon 7.

The Coaching staff were pleased with the performance and particularly how clinical we were in attack, against a side who were tough to breakdown, even with 14 men.

Bargoed Briefs 16th Dec 2025

he 1st XV travelled to play Ystrad Rhondda in the league, and the Warriors were also away at Beddau in the cup looking for a place in the quarter finals.

The Youth were also in action in the national cup with a home tie against Llanishen RFC.

1st XV

Bargoed had an excellent start playing with real tempo and showing great physicality.

Indeed they opened the scoring with a try from Josh Parry after 3 minutes converted by Josh Prosser.

Bargoed were very direct and were stressing the hosts defence with their offloading game and high tempo approach.

Bargoed were attacking from deep and Dylan Williams made a great break as Bargoed got into the opposition 22 and it was Williams who deservedly finished it and crashed over.

There was a scuffle going on and both sides had a yellow card issued.

Bargoed were losing the territorial battle and Ystrad were working hard against the Bulls organised  defence, but not getting much success with ball in hand.

They managed to open Bargoed up with a cross kick that saw them recover the ball for a converted try to close the gap to 12- 7 after 28 minutes.

Ystrad continued to pressure Bargoed and they had a second yellow card issued.

The hosts were now in the ascendancy but Bargoed’s defence held firm and they led 14-7 at half time.

Bargoed started the second half positively and had long periods of pressure on the hosts.

Bargoed remained patient as Ystrad offended and conceded a series of penalties.

Bargoed went multiple phases resulting in Logan Yendle scoring a try wide out, converted by Prosser to lead 19-7.

Bargoed let Ystrad back into the game when a loose kick resulted in the hosts kicking long, and Bargoed were adjudged to have obstructed a player and another yellow card was awarded.

The hosts opted to kick to the corner and then drove the line-out for a converted try with the game at 19-14 with 20 minutes left.

Ystrad pinned Bargoed back into their own half but the Bulls were unable to exit from there.

They again conceded a couple of penalties under pressure that resulted in the hosts scoring another try from a driving line out to take the lead 21-19 with seven minutes on the clock.

Bargoed were struggling to get out of their half and Ystrad scored again when poor defence enabled Ystrad to score under the posts to increase the lead to 28-19

Bargoed were now chasing the game and they managed to get an opportunity but a missed line-out and a kick and chase effort saw Ystrad regather and score a converted try under the posts.

This made the final score 35-19 to Ystrad Rhondda, in what was a complete turnaround in the last ten minutes.

Warriors

Bargoed took on Beddau in the last 16 of the WRU Division 5 Cup in an entertaining and nail biting encounter.

The Warriors started well and dominated territory and possession but stubborn defence held them out.

Bargoed continued to press and eventually skipper Adam Jones crashed over for a try to lead 5-0.

Bargoed had a load of opportunities but just fell short a few times and at half time they led 5-0.

They were up the slope in the second half and the home side took advantage playing to the corners and scored a close range try to reduce the lead to 7- 5 to Bargoed.

Bargoed tried to play from deep too often but they continued to work hard and plug away and this resulted in Charlie Williams kicking a penalty to increase the lead to 8-7.

Bargoed continued to look for the deciding score and great work initially by replacement Jake Thomas saw them build pressure and retain possession.

They went multiple phases before good work from Jason James and Adam Jones put Will Gregory in for a try. Charlie Williams converted and The Warriors ended 15-7 winners and a place in the quarter final of the cup

Youth

Bargoed entertained Llanishen in a cup
match and came away with a 59-5 convincing victory.

There were tries for Morgan Mazzorelli, Jayden Moon 2,
Rhys Wood 2, Max Hill 2, Ashley Clease and
Tyler Rees.
Cody Jones also added 7 conversions with a great kicking display.

This was another powerful and clinical display that will give this squad more confidence that they can progress in the cup.

Bargoed now look forward to the next round in the New Year.
